I wrote the lyrics for this song in the car while driving to my shift at work, thumbing the words out in my notes app at red lights. I’d been sitting on the first line, “I am broke and angry, I am broken down” for about a week and the rest of the lyrics decided to show up unannounced.

Sean Lane (drums), Andy Park (producer) and I tracked the bones of the tune live on the floor. Andy turned the space echo delay effect on my voice into a performance while Sean set the vibe and tone by manipulating the sound of the drum kit to embellish the tension and frustration in the lyric. The performance and all the happy accidents of this song make it one of my favorites from the record.
